STUDENTS’ GUILD WINS THE HALL FEE INCREMENT BATTLE

The Makerere University Students' Guild led by H.E Adeke Ann Ebaju was able to block the hall fee increment according to the University Council meeting that was held on Thursday June 27, 2013. Earlier, management had proposed that hall fees be increased by 100 percent and 50 percent for meals and accommodation respectively. This would mean that every student pays Ush 480,000/= and Ush 330,000/= for meals and accommodation respectively, totaling to Ush 810,000/= per semester. Students will now continue paying the normal Ush 220,000/= and Ush 240,000/= for accommodation and meals respectively.

Rumor had it that paying for both meals and accommodation would be compulsory for whoever decides to stay in the hall of residence. This posed a very serious battle between the students' guild and management as each was trying to make their point heard. While management was insisting that even the proposed amount was far below market prices, the students' guild maintained its stand that the idea was unfair to parents and guardians. The students' guild under the leadership of Miss. Adeke Ann Ebaju finally won the battle.

  1. Yes indeed a great thanks to EBAJU.... "Eyalama noi noi" this literally means "Thankyou very much"
To the scope of this day, i believe she must be entirely hailed for this one in particular. Where were we the poor going to get monies that are worth paying for some course at campus? Tell me? With the increment, we the students going to stay in bed bug free rooms, were they to be single in rooms, or were we going to find a fresh new menu hanged on walls of our MESSES and practically enjoying the traditional possho and beans. What new stuff was going to be implemented and yet they have failed to account for the 460,000/- we pay per semester?
Was it going to be some kind of rocket science transformation in MUK's halls of residence....
I really find no clear justification for thbsi increment in any way,
Thanks EBAJU for fighting this bourbons and my prayer is that you hold on to that gun as we push fro the betterment if MUK

  2. i believe there is a series of steps taken to increase such types of fees, of which debate between the payer and the mgt are supposed to come an agreement. also the amount to increase by matters for God's sake 100% increment is uncouth. either way i dont object the increment but percentage should be revised.....5% wouldnt be rejected hehe
